This bike is no longer available for sale, so we have removed all of the links to Amazon. If you’re looking for a good mountain bike, we recommend checking out our review of the Mongoose Impasse.
The popularity of mountain biking has soared over the last thirty years. These days, more mountain bikes are sold than racers, which would have been unimaginable back in the Eighties. A lot of that is down to the affordability of mountain bikes, and some is down to parents tiring of finding buckled wheels on the bikes of their children!
There are some great companies out there who produce a huge line up of bikes, which enables young riders or beginner riders to start out on decent bikes made by companies with a trustworthy reputation. Mongoose is one such company. If you wanted to go out and spend thousands on a bike, then there’s no doubt that Mongoose could oblige, but despite their fine standing in the bike world, a great deal of their bike sales comes through entry level and intermediate bikes.
Mongoose have always produced great bikes at affordable prices, and the latest men’s Montana Mountain Bike is no exception. This matte orange offering looks as cool as they come, but what’s it actually like? Let’s have a peek

Pros and Cons
This men’s bike is nothing if not eye catching. Finished in a gorgeous matte orange with black detailing, there’s no doubt that this looks every bit the expensive Mongoose. Only a real bike expert would be able to spot much of a difference between this bike and something that cost much, much more. Of course, if bikes were just judged on their looks, then there would be plenty of people out there on bikes that don’t live up to their expectations, so we have to look a little closer.
The Mongoose Men’s Montana Mountain Bike is truly a great machine at this remarkably low price. For little more than the cost of a top of the line chain set system, you get a mountain bike manufactured by one of the leading names in biking production. This means quality parts all over the bike. The gears are from top of the pile maker Shimano, and the frame itself is surprisingly good quality and constructed from aluminium, a tough yet light material. Oversized tyres look great on this bike too, and can handle pretty much anything you throw at them.
Final Thoughts
There’s not too much to complain about with this Mongoose. As always, they’ve come up with a great value for money bike, which suits a range of different people, all with differing needs. We can imagine that if you throw this through wooden trails on a daily basis, then you will eventually have some repair bills, but from a day to day point of view for the average rider, you can’t do much better in terms of value. As far as we’re concerned, the Mongoose Men’s Montana Mountain Bike is a steal!
