The X Games is a yearly extreme sports competition that was first held during the summer of 1995 in Newport and Providence, Rhode Island. While this event is produced, hosted, and broadcast by ESPN, coverage of this event is also shown on several of ESPN’s sister networks, including ABC. Competitors compete to win gold, silver, and bronze medals as well as prize money.
Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the summer 2021 event was cancelled. However, thankfully for fans, it will be back in 2022. And while it may be different from the games we’ve watched in the past, it’s likely to be as popular as ever. Here are some of the things we know about the Winter X Games being held in 2022:
The Location and Dates of the Winter X Games
Fans of the Winter X Games can’t wait for it to return next year. However, there has been some speculation over when the games will be held. The good news for fans who are wanting to book tickets or take time off work to watch their favourite athletes compete is that we now know that the games will be held from January 29th to 31st at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado.
The Hosts of the Winter X Games
In January, fans can look forward to the return of some of their favourite X Games presenters. This includes the likes of Shaun White, Chloe Kim, Gus Kenworthy, and Kelly Sildaru.
The X Games Will Look Very Different This Year
Unfortunately, for the event to be held successfully and safely in the continued presence of COVID-19, the 2022 Winter X Games will look very different from other years. One of the biggest changes is that the event will not be open to the general public. However, ESPN is trying to create a “virtual X Fest” that allows fans to feel as if they are there in person. This experience will allow fans to create avatars, win prizes, and interact with sponsors.
While creating a virtual space for X Games fans is a great idea, many fans are worried that they will not be able to enjoy the games as they would if they were there in person. Thankfully, there are lots of things you can do to make sure you enjoy these games while at home. For example, you could invite your friends around to enjoy the games with you or you could download some sports betting apps and place a bet on your favourite athlete. Over the last few years, we’ve seen lots of amazing athletes taking part in the Winter X Games, but this year, we may not see as many as the big named stars joining in. The Sporting Events at the Winter X Games 2022
The Winter X Games organizers have done their best to try and make this year’s games as good as ever. However, fans may be disappointed to hear that some of their favourite sporting events won’t be happening. While sports like skiing and snowboarding will take place, as usual, there won’t be any motocross events.
