Camping is one of the best outdoor activities out there and is definitely a great way to connect with nature. However, sometimes there are things that we may not enjoy. Not being able to shower, sleeping on hard ground, and dealing with bugs and insects may be some of them. However, there are many great tips out there that can make your experience much more enjoyable.
Below, we are going to discuss some camping hacks that you should memorize before your next trip. Sound interesting? Then keep reading!
DIY Pillow
When camping out in nature, pillows can be a bit of a luxury and take up unnecessary space. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t create your own. Stuff your sleeping bag cover with as many clothes as you can fit, and you can get a good night’s sleep. Trust us when we say you won’t regret it.
Mosquito Repellent
Mosquitos can ruin camping holidays, but luckily there is a simple hack to get rid of them. The best part is, you don’t need to wear an entire bottle or repellent. Just take some bundles of sage with you, set them on fire and let it smolder near your campfire. It’s an easy natural repellent, smells great, and won’t leave you feeling sticky and gross.
Easy Camping Toilet
While going to the bathroom in nature is an inevitable part of camping, there is a quick and easy hack that can make your life much more comfortable. All you need to get started is a bucket with a detachable lid, a pool noodle (that can be cut to make a padded seat), degradable garbage bags, and toilet paper. Everything can be easily transported, and after use, you can simply bury the bag. Are you worried about the smell? Try using sawdust to absorb the odor.
Perfect Lantern
Some lanterns are bulky to carry, and others are so bright that you’ll wake up half the campsite just trying to get to the bathroom. A simple solution is to place your headlamp (a camping essential) against a large jug of water. It will give off a subtle glow that is still bright enough to help you navigate around.
Portable Washing Machine
When going extreme camping, there are going to be times when you need to wash your clothes. While you can choose to use the water resources around you, your belongings may end up dirtier than when you started. A simple tip is to use a bucket and a plunger. Just add water, a bit of detergent, and you are ready to splash away! Just make sure you use another clean bucket of water to rinse them out before hanging them to dry.
Foraging
Lastly, another great hack to familiarize yourself with is foraging what is around you. From blackberries, to mushrooms and herbs – there are so many delicious things out there that you should try. However, before you go picking anything, you need to do your research and understand what is and isn’t edible. There are many things out there that are poisonous and toxic, and the last thing you want is for your adventure to turn into a trip to the ER.
We hope these tips help you prepare for your next camping trip!
